Managing Token Usage
How to set token limit and see usage reports.
How does pay-as-you-go token billing work?
After your organization uses all its monthly allocated tokens, pay-as-you-go lets you keep using tokens beyond the included amount at your plan's per-1,000-token rate:
- Tree: $3 per 1,000 tokens
- Grove: $2 per 1,000 tokens
- Forest (Enterprise): customized
Pay-as-you-go usage is totaled over the billing month and billed on your next billing date (the same day your subscription renews). Sapling does not support pay-as-you-go: to get more tokens, upgrade to Tree or above.
What usage reports and exports are available?
Astell provides token usage reporting across chat and ingestion so you can see where tokens go and attribute usage internally. Reports include chat usage (request/response trends, top users), document processing (documents and pages processed, top file types, most active integrations), and media processing (images, videos/audio, total minutes). CSV exports are available for the last 12 months. Even though tokens are pooled, usage can still be broken down by user, source, and content type.
Will I be notified about my token usage?
Astell sends automatic email alerts as you approach your monthly token limit:
- 75%: "You've used 75% of your monthly token limit"
- 90%: "You're approaching your token limit"
- 100%: "You've reached your token limit"
You can also enable an optional weekly summary email covering your team's token usage in detail.
When do tokens reset, and do unused tokens roll over?
Tokens reset on your billing cycle date each month, if you subscribed on the 15th, tokens reset on the 15th. Unused plan tokens do not roll over to the next month.
